LCD Screen Burn in on a Mac?! How to fix ghosting problem, stuck pixels: LCD vs AMOLED vs Plasma. Display problem: How to fix screen burn in, image persistence, retention & ghosting? It depends on the technology: AMOLED burn in on phones and Plasma burn-in on TVs are quite frequent, to my surprise! With LCDs you can experience a similar problem, but it is a bit different.
0:20 YouTube interface was marked on my iMac's LCD screen
0:32 Screen "Burn-in" problem on CRTs from 80's and 90's
1:01 Plasma TVs also use Phosphor and get burn in pixels
1:14 OLED and AMOLED also get burned in ghost images
1:35 LCD displays don't burn-in, instead, have "image persistence"
1:55 The future might be AMOLED also for iPhones iPads and Macs (Apple Watch already uses AMOLED)

When I saw the YouTube interface ‘stuck’ on my Mac’s screen I got really scared! I immediately started searching what to do and to know if it would be a permanent damage. Luckily it is only temporary and 15 minutes later I was calm enough to get my iPhone and record some videos of the ‘phenomenon’. I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t get as clear on the videos as it was to my naked eye… Anyway, I found the episode really intriguing and I decided to research a bit about it - this short video is the result.
To be clear: OLED / AMOLED really seems to be the future of displays. But it surprises me that not many people talk about the current downsides of it: the blue sub pixels really wear out considerably fast. And the so bragged “energy efficiency” is controversial: if you use an AMOLED screen with predominantly bright colors, it actually drains more battery than an IPS LCD screen! Of course, when most of the screen is dark, AMOLED is much more efficient and it shows perfect blacks/high-contrast (something that LCD technology is constantly trying to achieve).
